Taking the ferry anywhere in Sydney to get anywhere is a great experience. It is a great way to view the city from a different perspective and also a novel experience. M and O both enjoyed the experience of taking the ferry. The photos below are from when we took the ferry to
Manly and to
Taronga Zoo.

Both ferries to
Manly and
Taronga Zoo departed from Circular Quay. The ferry ride to Manly was 30 minutes while the ride to the zoo was 15 minutes. We visited Manly along with the Howards on our first full day here in Sydney - see post
here.
Side note - if you are traveling with a stroller or pram as they call it here, you can definitely take it on the ferry.
For routes and timetables for public transportation, see
here. Taking public transportation is very easy in Sydney and requires an Opal card. You can buy an Opal card from any Opal retailer. We got our Opal cards before we left Sydney Airport in order to take the train from the airport into CBD. You can use your Opal cards for the ferry, trains, buses, and light rail. It is very convenient way to travel and you can top off your card when your card does not meet the minimum amount required depending on the mode of transport being used.
