A First Look :: Bill's Backyard at the Children's Discovery Museum

The Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose has always been a favorite go-to place for the kids. This week, CDM has been having a soft opening or a members preview for their new outdoor learning environment, Bill's Backyard. The grand opening for Bill's Backyard is on October 29th.

The kids and I took advantage of the members preview hours and went to go check it out. The photos are taken from my phone, so please excuse the blurriness. On another visit, I'd like to come back and take photos with my camera.

Tree Climber - lots of climbing with rope bridges

Garden - lots of seating and shade

A view at the Lookout Tower - there is a tunnel underneath and a concrete slide on go down on

Aside from the Junior Ranger Station, there are tall trees to climb on and slide out the slide. From the lookout tower, you can view the whole backyard and then slide down a concrete slide. There is also a giant pit filled with stones, where you can dig and scoop. M enjoyed looking around for the hidden animals located throughout the yard. One great thing is the amount of seating throughout the yard and in the shade. With the current weather we've been having, having seating in the shade is amazing. I was joking with one of the managers that all it needs is a coffee bar outside (I don't think it's going to happen - there is a cafe inside already).

So, let's go out and play at Bill's Backyard soon!
