Switzerland :: Baren Park & Barengraben

While in Bern for the day, we stopped by Bären Park and Bärengraben. The Bärengraben or the Bear Pit, is a tourist attraction in Bern, the capital city of Switzerland and has been around since 1857. It is located next to the River Aar near the eastern part of the old city of Bern. Bären Park, is a new addition to the bear pit, which is a larger and more natural enclosure alongside the river, which opened back in 2009. The Bärengraben is a heritage site of national significance because the bear is both the symbol of the city and its canton and is also featured on their coat of arms.

The bear pit houses two bears and we were lucky to be able to watch them eat and walk up and down the park.
